Mary Ellen (Miller)Jennings
Called to Her Reward

The death of Mrs. Chas. Jennings, at her home in this city, last Friday morning, was a source of sorrow, not only to her immediate family, but to a large circle of friends and neighbors, who had known and loved the good woman for many years.

She had been an invalid for many months, but through all her long suffering, she was patient and uncomplaining. Knowing that the end could not be far distant, she was resigned to the will of the Master, whom in health she had faithfully served, and in her affliction. His grace had sustained her. Her greatest concern was for her sorrowing husband, and the little son, Ernest, who would soon be left motherless.

The beautiful new home which was finished but a few months ago and furnished with a view mainly of adding to her comfort and happiness, is now left desolate – the wife and mother – its life and joy, having gone out forever. For the bereaved husband and motherless boy, the tenderest feeling of sympathy are felt by all.

Mary Ellen (Miller) Jennings was born in Huntington Co., Pa., Jan. 20, 1852. She resided there until 1968, when she came to Jasper Co., Iowa, where, excepting a short interval, she has lived ever since. March 28, 1876, she was united in marriage with Charles H. Jennings, and on Feb. 20, 1887, she was received into church fellowship with the Lutheran Church of Newton by baptism by Rev. Albert Bell. She has since lived a consistent Christian life, and on Friday morning, Dec. 20, 1895, departed this life in peace, aged 43 years and 11 months.

The funeral services took place in the Lutheran Church at 2 p. m. on last Sabbath, Rev. Dr. Jacoby officiating, and were attended by a large number of friends of the family. ~ The Newton (IA) Record, Friday, December 27, 1895, Page 1, Column 2
