Death of a Young Wife

Mrs. Charles Hill died this morning at the family home six miles north of town, after a short illness of inflammation of the bowels and stomach. Mrs. Hill is well known in this vicinity as Eliza Scott. She was the daughter of Chas. Scott of southeast Newton. She leaves a bereaved husband and a young child. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, December 27, 1895

Obituary
On December 27th, Mrs. Chas. Hill died at her home in Malaka Township, after a severe and very painful illness. Mrs. Hill was born June 9th, 1860 and was therefore 35 years, 7 months and 6 days old at the time of her death. Her maiden name was Eliza Scott. She was married to Charles Hill, February 26th, 1892. When fifteen years of age she united with the Methodist Church. She was a good woman, a devoted mother and faithful wife, and a little child and husband are left to mourn her untimely death.

The funeral service was held at Wittenberg Church, last Sunday afternoon at 1 o’clock. It was conducted by Rev. David Phillips. The sermon was preached to a crowded house. ~ The Newton Record, Friday, January 3, 1896
