Lillian Arlie Munger, 88, of Newton was born Feb. 13, 1920, in Monroe, the daughter of Andrew Hans and Corneila (Kooyman) Gertsma. A lifelong resident of Jasper County, she graduated from Monroe Senior High, class of 1937.
On Aug. 31, 1938, Lillian was united in marriage to Carroll Raymond Munger in Prairie City. She had devoted her life to her family, and was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton, Ladies Missionary Group and Senior Saints Group. She always enjoyed her daily walks around the block in Newton.
Lillian died on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 13, 2008, in the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Carroll on Jan. 23, 1982.
Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Funeral services for Lillian will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19, at the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton. Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. on Friday until service time, at the Immanuel Baptist Church.
Those left to honor Lillian’s memory include her son, Bob (Martha) Munger of Ankeny; her daughters, Carole Jean Munger of Lakeland, Fla., Sarah Munger (Fred Lunde), Sally (Nick) Salyer and Mary Garcia, all of Tuscon, Ariz., and Lisa (Reggie) Collette of Des Moines; her 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and her many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Lillian’s name are being designated to the Lillian Munger Memorial Fund or the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newton.
