PRAIRIE CITY — Verna H. Steenhoek, 93, of Prairie City died Monday, Dec. 15, 2008, at Iowa Lutheran Medical Center of Des Moines. Funeral services for Mrs. Steenhoek will be on Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Prairie City First Reformed Church at 1 p.m. with burial following at Waveland Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Steenhoek will be on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Coburn Funeral Home of Prairie City from 5 to 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Henry and Dena (Van Roekel) Bensink, Verna was born on February 17, 1915 at Pella. On February 17, 1939 Verna was united in marriage with Andrew Steenhoek at Pella. Verna was a devoted homemaker and mother for her family. She especially enjoyed gardening, sewing, and crafts. Verna was very family and friend oriented, and loved when she could spend time with those she loved most. Verna was a member of the Prairie City First Reformed Church.
Those left to honor her memory are her sons, Stanley Steenhoek and his wife Matilde of Lucas; Jim Steenhoek and his wife Sue of Prairie City; Kenneth Steenhoek and his wife Claudia of Prairie City; six grandchildren, Allen Steenhoek; Duane Steenhoek; Jill Bellinghauser; Jodi Van Wyk; Jay Steenhoek; Amy Steenhoek; ten great-grandchildren, and one brother; Elvin Bensink and his wife Willa of Montezuma. Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one sister; Ardellia Steenhoek.
