Agnes Lucile Bunse, the daughter of Otto A. and Grace Agnes (Woody) Hatfield, was born Oct. 4, 1919, near Newton. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1936. She taught in rural schools of Jasper County for nine years before marrying Carl F. Bunse on April 27, 1946, in Newton. They established their home on the Bunse family farm northwest of Newton.
Agnes devoted her life to her family. She enjoyed stitchery and created many pieces which family members are proud to have today. She took an active part and enjoyed attending the Oak Ridge Homemakers Farm Bureau Club where she attended regularly, holding offices, presenting lessons and planning programs for over 56 years when she was then made an honorary member. Agnes was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
Agnes died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008, at the age of 89 years.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; her sister-in-law, Hazel Hatfield; and her brother-in-law, Delbert Kneeland.
Those left to honor Agnes’ memory include her husband of sixty-two years, Carl Bunse of Newton; her sons Marvin (Koni) Bunse of Newton and Carroll (Janet) Bunse of Melbourne; her daughter, Karen (Larry) Den Hartog of Fond du Lac, Wis.; her grandchildren, Nick (Stacie) Bunse, Laura (Larry) Hoffert, Lisa (Bryan) Harrenstein, Tim (Delani) Kaisand and Scott (Megan) Kaisand; her six great-grandchildren; her brother, Forrest Hatfield of Leon; her sister-in-law, Doris Kneeland of Spirit Lake; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton, where the family will greet friends on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorials may be designated to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice.
