BAXTER — Dick Follis, 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, at the Veterans Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 24, at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Dick was born March 4, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., and had lived in Des Moines for 41 years. He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He enjoyed spending time in Canada fishing with family and friends. His love of being a pilot took him soaring to many beautiful places with family and friends. Dick was a member of the Golden K Kiwanis and D.A.V.
Dick is survived by his wife, Miriam; daughter, Christine (Melvin) Butler of Des Moines; two sons, John of Des Moines and Jeffery (Michele) of Montrose, Colo.; grandchildren, Chad Follis, Sara Evans, Lindsay Follis, Lara Coburn, Heather Litchkey and Katie Butler; great-grandchildren, Austin Follis, Isabelle and Olivia Coburn; a brother, Raymond (Caryl) Follis of St. Louis, Mo.; step-children, Sally (Bob) Seeley, Jim (Danna) Schmidt and Don (Peggy) Schmidt; and step-grandchildren, Joel, Jana, Jennifer, Nicole, Erin and Sydney.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Follis; his sister, Kathryn Poucher; and a daughter, Lisa Follis.
Memorial contributions may be given to D.A.V. or Kiwanis.
