William M. Branderhorst, the son of Gerrit and Evalena (VanRyswyk) Branderhorst was born Aug. 7, 1929, in Jasper County. He attended Des Moines #4 rural schools.
On Nov. 6, 1952, William was united in marriage with Jennie Marie VanSoelen in Sully. William loved working the land as a farmer. He also sold seed corn for a time. William was a member of the Newton Christian Reformed Church and Jasper County Farm Bureau. He loved his family and always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities.
William died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2008, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. He was 79 years old.
William was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Marie Vos, Dorothy DeKoning, Wilma Van Zee and Leona VanSoelen.
Those left to honor William’s memory include his wife, Jennie Branderhorst of Newton; his sons, William Gerrit (Margie) Branderhorst of Newton, Mark Edward (Lois) Branderhorst of Pella; his daughters, Judith Ann (Allen) Nikkel of Urbandale and Joyce Eileen (Craig) VanDerWilt of Newton; his 10 grandchildren, Adam Nikkel, Aaron Nikkel, Amanda Nikkel, Benjamin Branderhorst, Joel Branderhorst, Joshua (Katie) Branderhorst, Lucas Branderhorst, Alex Branderhorst, Jennifer VanDerWilt and Nicholas VanDerWilt; his great-grandchildren, Gage Branderhorst, Riker Branderhorst and Eli Branderhorst; his brothers, Marvin Branderhorst and Gerrit Branderhorst, both of Pella; his sisters, Mildred VanderHoek of Monroe, Esther Wellington of Ft. Lauterdale, Fla., and Pearl Van Zee of Newton; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Friday, Nov. 28, at the Newton Christian Reformed Church in Newton. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Pence- Reese Funeral Home.
Memorials may be designated to the Newton Christian School.
