NEWBURG — Debbie Breeden, 49, of Newburg, died Nov. 20, 2008, at her home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Pam Slanagan, pastor of the Kellogg United Methodist Church and Pleasant View United Methodist Church near Kellogg, officiating. Pallbearers will be Christopher, Corey, Nathan, and Zach Gifford, Jared and Marty Breeden, and J.J. Wiley. Honorary bearers will be nieces and nephews. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Jasper County.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and where the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Debbie Breeden Memorial Fund.
Debbie was born Jan. 27, 1959, in Grinnell, the daughter of Clinton and Arlene (Sharp) Gifford. She was raised near Kellogg and was a 1977 graduate of Newton Senior High School. Following her education she was employed for several years at G.T.E.
On Aug. 4, 1979, she was married to Kevin Breeden at the Pleasant View United Methodist Church near Kellogg. While Kevin served in the United States Air Force the couple lived in South Dakota, Germany and Florida. They moved to Kellogg in 1986, prior to settling in Newburg in 1987. Debbie was employed at Food-4-Less in Grinnell for eight years and later for Subway in Grinnell where she was an assistant manager. For the last three years she managed the Subway south of Grinnell near I-80.
Debbie loved her animals and enjoyed caring for them. She enjoyed collecting figurines, coffee mugs, steins and nutcrackers. She also enjoyed flower gardening, traveling and shopping for crafts. She loved the Christmas holiday season and was an avid Johnny Bench and Cincinnati Reds baseball fan.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin of Newburg; her parents, Clinton and Arlene Gifford of Kellogg; three brothers, Clinton “Biff” (Teresa) Gifford Jr. of Kellogg, Kevin Gifford of Newton and Curtis (Cheryl) Gifford of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
