AUSTIN, Texas — Kenneth Glenn Faidley, a long time resident of Colfax died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2008, in Austin, Texas. He was born on Christmas Eve, 1919, in Mound Prairie Township, Jasper County. Kenneth was the fourth son of Roy and Edith Longren Faidley. After attending one room schools in the area, he graduated from Colfax High School in 1939. Kenneth worked at various jobs until he joined the United States Navy in September 1941.
While in training at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater, Okla., Kenneth met Mary Belle Johnson. They were married on Oct. 10, 1942, in Corpus Christi, Texas. They returned to Colfax after his discharge and lived here for the next 58 years. In 1980, Kenneth retired from Firestone after 30 years of employment as a tire builder. He was then able to devote more time to his grandchildren, his gas engine restoration work, fishing, gardening, music and travel. He was an involved and concerned member of the community and will be missed by all those whose lives he touched whether helping with mechanical repairs, cutting wood, sharing garden produce and fish or entertaining with stories and music. In 2000, Mary and Ken moved to Austin, Texas, to be near their daughter, Sherry Healy and her family.
Ken was a member of the American Legion (Jones-Willis Post 175) for 55 years. He was active in the local Kiwanis and a member of the Howard Street Christian Church, Disciples of Christ since 1931.
Ken is survived by his children, Allan (Barbara) of Winterset, Roger (Mary) of Harrington, Wash., Sherry (Gene) Healy of Austin, Texas, and Richard of Bakersfield, Calif.; nine grandchildren; two step-grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great- grandchildren; one brother, Ray (Phyllis) of Colfax; a sister, Marvel (Robert) Baxter of Boise, Idaho; and sisters-in-law, Esther (Lloyd) Faidley of Newton, Evelyn (Loren) Faidley of Phoenix, Ariz., Evelyn (Bill) Boulton of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mary George (Guy) Johnson of Dallas, Texas.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mary Belle; and his siblings, Darrell, Myron, Lloyd, Loren and Marjorie Maxwell.
The family has designated memorials to the Howard Street Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the Colfax Senior Citizen Center or the Colfax Historical Society.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Nov. 22, at 10:30 a.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church, with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, Nov. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
