Myrtle M. Conn, 90, of Newton died on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008, at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton, with Chaplain Merle Smith of the Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating.
The family will greet friends following the service with a lunch at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
Myrtle lived in Newton for 66 years. She was a sales clerk for 16 years at Montgomery Ward in Newton, retiring in 1975.
Myrtle loved spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Scooter. She also enjoyed the outdoors along with doing ceramics, sewing and crafts.
Survivors include her three daughters, Peggy Hummel of Baxter, Patty Hollenbeck of Newton and Pam (David) Schnathorst of Newton; seven grandchildren, Scott (Shannon) Gammon, Matt (Amy) Gammon, Mark (Mindy) Gammon, Robb Gammon, Kristi (Philip) Peden, Angie (Joe) Hotchkin, and Chad Hollenbeck; her five great-grandchildren, Josh and Lauren Gammon, Atticus Peden, Julian and Olivia Hotchkin; and sister, Kay Pille of Davenport.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Lila (Cooper) Gregory; husband, Mike in 1985; two brothers, William and James Gregory; and three sisters, Rose Holmes, Evalee Haunsperger and Gertrude Woods.
