McDonald, Mary A. ‘Mayme’ – 1903-2008

VICTOR — A funeral mass for Mayme McDonald, 105, will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Victor.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 17, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor, with the family present to greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. A scripture service will be at 7 p.m., with a rosary to follow.
Memorials may be directed to the Mayme McDonald Memorial Fund to benefit the St. Bridget Catholic Church and the Victor Volunteer Fire Department. Online condolences may be submitted to the McDonald family at www.smithfh.com.
Mayme is survived by her five daughters, Katherine (LaVerne) Dietrich of Newton, Bernadine Roushar and Jeanette (Bill) Holtz of Cedar Rapids, Lorretta (Bob) Michalek of Victor and Mary (Don) Sumpter of Brooklyn.

Mary was born October 25, 1903, the daughter of Michael and Mary (Sheda) Wentland near Hartwick, Iowa. She married John W. McDonald on February 12, 1929, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor. They lived and farmed near Victor. John died December 27, 1949. In 1950, Mary moved to Victor. She was a lifetime member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Bridget Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her 5 daughters, Bernadine Roushar and Jeanette (Bill) Holtz of Cedar Rapids, IA, Lorretta (Bob) Michalek of Victor, Mary (Don) Sumpter of Brooklyn, IA, and Katherine (LaVerne) Dietrich of Newton, IA; 22 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and 8 great-great grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; her daughter, Mary DeMeulenaere, a grandson, Greg DeMeleulenaere, 3 sons-in-law, Wayne Kriegel, Jack Roushar, and Bernard DeMeulenaere; and 3 brothers, Joe, Frank, and John Wentland.
