Funeral services for Martha Dammeier of Newton will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Pence-Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation with the family will be 5:30 until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
Martha Marie Dammeier, 84, the daughter of S.R. Beukema and Erma Floy Eaton, was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Newton. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School, class of 1942, and attended four years of college, receiving her teaching degree. She was a country and then a first grade school teacher at Berg and a homemaker.
On July 7, 1946, Martha was united in marriage with Karl Frederick Dammeier in Newton. She had devoted her life to her husband and family, and was a member of the United Church of Christ of Baxter; Farm Bureau and many Ladies Clubs. Martha enjoyed reading, word puzzles, traveling and music.
Martha died on Saturday evening, Nov. 15, 2008, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her four sisters, Ruth Butcher, Wanda Whitaker, June Adams and Elise Long; her eight brothers-in-law; a niece; and two nephews.
Those left to honor Martha’s memory include her husband Karl; her four sisters, Ester Crook of California, Helen Kinart of North Carolina, Wilma Sleevwenhoek and Eunice Stubbe, both of Newton; many nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Martha’s name are being designated to the Hospice of Jasper County and Breast Cancer Research.
