Herbert J. Schwarz, 81, of Newton died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at the USA Healthcare-Newton, in Newton.
Funeral services were today, Monday, Nov. 10, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
Memorials to Iowa Hospice or the American Legion Post 111 may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Charles Francis and Lorna (Snyder) Schwarz, he was born on April 5, 1927, in Newton where he was a lifelong resident. He was united in marriage with Myrtle M. Kingery on Oct. 22, 1944, in Newton.
Herb was a farmer, worked at Maytag and was the owner/operator of Schwarz Trucking. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111, Last Man’s Club, VFW Post 1655, and Izaak Walton League.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle of Newton; son, Kenny Schwarz (Debbie) of Newton; two daughters, Karen (Paul) Slycord of Mitchellville and Kathy Hawkins of Des Moines; seven grandchildren, Kim (Mike) Clemons of Marshalltown, Jeff (Julie) Slycord of Mitchellville, Rodney (Abby) Hawkins of Runnells, Rhonda Hawkins of Des Moines and Shane, Kayne and Levi Schwarz, all of Newton; and seven great-grandchildren and one on the way.
