IRA J. DEHOOT, 66, DIES AT HOSPITAL; RITES THURSDAY
Ira J. DeHoot, 66, a lifelong resident of Jasper county, died Tuesday at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Toland funeral home.
The Rev. Arthur V. Long, pastor of the First Methodist church will conduct the services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Gardens.
The American Legion will conduct military rites.
A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Methodist church, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. DeHoot also served in the Iowa State Guard for five years.
Mr. DeHoot is survived by four step-children, Robert Nolin of Newton, Mrs. Burton Breckenridge of Newton, Woodrow Nolin of Longvale, Calif.; and Kermit Nolin of Torrance, Calif.; and 10 step-grandchildren.
Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Clara Farmer of Corvallis, Ore.
The son of Gharrett and Mary Merse DeHoot, he was born May 30, 1892 at Otley.
He was married Dec. 24, 1943 in Newton to Pearl Nolin Postma.
A guard at the Maytag Co., he resided at 422 South 4th Ave. West.
