Ward M. Gifford Dies Suddenly Thursday Morning

Ward M. Gifford, 50, well-known Grinnell businessman, succumbed suddenly Thursday morning at a local hospital shortly after being admitted.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Leland W. Mann, minister of the Congregational church, officiating. The Ward M. Gifford memorial has been established at Community hospital for those wishing to contribute to it.

A prominent figure in Grinnell, Gifford had been employed a salesman for the McGregor Furniture Co. here.

Born at Lynnville on Apr. 16th, 1910, he was the son of Ahruma T. and May Terkeldsen Gifford. He received his early education from the public schools in Lynnville and graduated from Lynnville high school.

On July 4th. 1934, he was united in marriage with Norma Churchill in Newton. They made their home in Boone for a number of years and came to Grinnell in 1946.

Mr. Gifford was a member of Grinnell Elks lodge No. 1266 and had also taken an active part in many of the activities of the Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife; his stepmother, Mrs. A. T. Gifford of Lynnville; one half-brother and three step brothers. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. ~ Grinnell Newspaper, November 28, 1960, accessed online through Stewart Library on-line obituary collection.
