Marilyn R. Versteegh, 64, of Newton died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2008, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery at a later date.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 31, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Jasper County, Gift of Life Transplant House or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Russell D. and Lauraine (Olson) Adams, she was born Sept. 26, 1944, she was a lifelong resident of Newton. Marilyn was a 1962 graduate of Newton Senior High School.
She worked as a bridal consultant and salesperson at Nollen Drug, VanDenBerg’s in Pella and was a waitress at Midtown Café.
As a registered bridal consultant, she attended many gift shop buyer’s market events; was a member of many collectible clubs; was active in class of 1962 reunions; she was known for her smile and knowledge of so many clients and their favorite collectibles, china patterns, etc.
Survivors include her son, Jeff “Burph” (Desiree Briese) Versteegh of Newton; her daughter, Lori (Craig) Samson of Newton; two grandchildren, Matt Samson and Kristin Samson, both of Newton; a sister, Diane (George Schrauder) Shipley of Beltsville, Md.; her niece, Amy Shipley of Rancho Santa Margherita, Calif.; and special friend, Gary F. Smith of Newton and his children, Dave (Kim) Smith, Dan Smith, Cindy (Scott) Dittmer and Amy (Chad) Ray.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
