Funeral services for Curtis Petersen, will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 Friday, Oct. 31, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery, Elk Horn, Iowa.
Curtis Dean Petersen, 57, the son of Arnold K. Petersen and Eleanor Annabel (Andersen) Petersen, was born November 9, 1950 in Audubon County, Iowa. He was a graduate of the Elk Horn, Iowa Senior High School, Class of 1969. He later graduated from Iowa State University in Ames, with a degree in Agriculture Education. Curtis had lived in Elk Horn, Menlo and Anita, Iowa, prior to moving to Newton, Iowa in 1987. He was employed as a Senior Vice President of the First Newton National Bank
Curtis had devoted his life to his family and friends, and attended the First Lutheran Church in Newton. He was a member of the Iowa Bankers Association, Jasper County Extension Council and on the Board of Directors for Capstone. He enjoyed his family, gardening, yard work, the outdoors, and woodworking.
Curtis died Wednesday morning, October 29, 2008 at his home in Newton. He was preceded in death by his mother, Annabel; step-brother Jamie Doonan; and step-sister Linda Ahrenholtz.
Those left to honor the memory of Curtis include his sons: Michael Petersen of West Des Moines, Iowa and Matthew (Marisa) Petersen of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter Megan (John Vladea) Petersen of Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren: Karenna and Brendan Petersen; his father and step-mother: Arnold (Loretta) Petersen of Elk Horn, Iowa; his brother Allan (Carol) Petersen of Elk Horn; sister Deloris (Butch) Nelsen of Ankeny; his very special friend Louise “Lou” Warnick of Newton; his step-sisters: Denise (Dennis) Juhl of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jane (Dean) Fabian of Elk Horn and Ann (Chuck) Wolken of Harlan, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and his many good neighbors and friends.
