Florence C. Shaffer, 82, of Newton died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008, at Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing in Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Graveside services are today, Monday, Oct. 20, at 2 p.m. at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. No visitation is scheduled.
The Rev. Gary Marzolf will officiate at the graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home or the graveside service.
The Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton is in charge of arrangements.
Born on Aug. 27, 1926, in Newton, Florence was the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Grote) Illingworth. She was a lifelong resident of Newton.
She was united in marriage to Kermit Shaffer on Jan. 24, 1947, in Newton.
Florence was a 1944 graduate of Newton Senior High School. She was a homemaker and also had worked at Dunlap Manufacturing in Newton. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Florence enjoyed flower gardening and taking care of her house.
Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Keith) Wiebke of Allison; her two sons, Terry Shaffer of Baxter and Mark (Kathee) Shaffer of Newton; two grandchildren, Lindsey and Austin Shaffer, both of Newton; her two sisters, Wilma Davis and Dorothy Clements, both of Newton; her brother, Frank Illingworth of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kermit, in 1992; son, Randy Joe, at birth; two brothers, Dale and Bennie; and three sisters, Elsie, Ella and Frances.
