Schrader, Betty Jane – 1930-2008

Funeral services for Betty Schrader of Newton will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton.
Betty Jane Schrader, 78, the daughter of William Pearson and Nellie Caroline (Sorensen) Pearson-Thompson, was born on her grandparents’ farm in Audubon County on April 16, 1930. She attended Guthrie Center High School through the 10th grade, graduating from the Newton Senior High School.
On Sept. 22, 1945, Betty was united in marriage with Gordon Stanley Schrader Sr. in Audubon. She had devoted her life to her husband, family and friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Betty was the co-owner and operator of the Jasper County Advertiser and C.G.B. Printing. She enjoyed and loved her family, reading and drawing.
Betty died on Tuesday morning, Oct. 14, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Raymond Thompson; her husband, Gordon in March 2004; a son, Lance Corporal Franklin Daniel Schrader on Jan. 19, 1970; and her step-brothers, Arnold and Roland Thompson.
Those left to honor Betty’s memory include her daughter Connie (Tim) Rock of Newton; her sons, Gordon Schrader Jr., of Las Vegas, Nev., and Craig A. (Gloria) Schrader of Coralville; her grandchildren, Eric, Lisa (Ryan), Jason (Jamie), Christy (Jon), Erin (Ryan), Melissa, Timmy, Samantha, Mary and Shelly; her great-grandchildren, Ben, Ella, Brett, Kyle, Matthew, Lucus, Lily and Payten; her step-brother, Bernard (Phyllis) Thompson of Waukee; a brother-in-law, William (Elizabeth) Schrader of Garner; very special friends, Mike and Wanda Sell of Newton; and many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Betty’s name are being designated to the American Diabetes Association, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Autism Society of Iowa.
