Ferguson, Lyle H. - 1921-2008

Graveside funeral services for Lyle H. Ferguson will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Newton Union Cemetery. Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Family and friends are invited to a lunch and visitation time following the graveside services, at the Pence Tribute Center.
Memorials may be designated in Lyle’s name or Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.
Lyle Howard Ferguson, 86, the son of Jesse O. and Ida Faye (Ratcliff) Ferguson, was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Oskaloosa. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School, class of 1939. Lyle served his country during World War II, with the U.S. Navy, as an armed guard. He was employed as a truck driver, retiring from Rideway Trucking.
Lyle had devoted his life to his family and friends and was a member of the Newton V.F.W. Post #1655, Newton American Legion Post 111 and Teamsters Local #710 Retirees.
Lyle died on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2008, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Louise Longren-Ferguson; his brother, Joseph Ferguson; and his long-time companion, Martha Ferguson.
Those left to honor Lyle’s memory include his step-son, Larry (Marilyn) Longren of Newton; his three step-grandchildren, Shelly (John) Barker, Missy (Curt) Hodges and Tony (Glenda) Longren; a brother Robert “Whitey” Ferguson of Sylvania, Ga.; his sisters, Elizabeth Bayse of Springfield, Mo., and Esther Pence of Boliver, Mo.; and his many good neighbors and friends.
