Bettye R. Overturf, 81, died on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
Bettye worked in the office of United Telephone Company and then for GTE, both in Newton. She enjoyed being with her family, watching old movies and doing cross word puzzles. Bettye had lived in Newton since 1949.
Memorials may be designated to Hospice of Jasper County or to the Jasper County Elderly Nutrition (Meals On Wheels).
Survivors include her son, E. Douglas “OT” Overturf of Des Moines; her daughter, Shari (Ray) Van Baale of Newton; two grandchildren, Rachael Dickneite and Joanna Downing; her two great-grandchildren, Paige Van Baale and Carter Downing.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, Thelma Glanton and Vernice Pendley.
