TACCOA, Ga. — Margaret A. Randolph, 86, of Taccoa, Ga., formerly of Newton, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at her son Gary’s home in Toccoa, Ga.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Gary Marzolf of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service, at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or to the VFW Auxiliary may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Edgar Lewis and Gladys Alice (Sayles) Payne, she was born on July 21, 1922, in Perry. She lived in Newton from 1925 until moving to Toccoa, Ga., in 2000.
She was united in marriage to her first husband, Blyde W. Harper and she was united in marriage to her second husband, William Frank Randolph on Jan. 9, 1948, in Newton.
A 1940 graduate of Newton Senior High School, she worked in the school lunch program at Emerson Hough School from 1976-1992 and was a nurse’s aide at Heritage Manor for five plus years.
Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton, VFW Post 1655, VFW Post 1655 Women’s Auxiliary and other VFW organizations and the Kellogg American Legion Post. She was a pioneer in the development of the Jasper County Association for Retarded Citizens (then called Beacon Light School). She also loved camping with her friends in the Good Sam Club.
Survivors include two sons, Gary (Joyce) Harper and Robert J. “Bobby” Harper, all of Toccoa, Ga.; two granddaughters, Jodi Lynn (Patrick) Spink of Auburn, Ga. and Tracy Sue (George) Burtz of Dacula, Ga.; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Harper Spink, Abbey Spink, Alex Burtz, and Adam Burtz; and one brother, Melvin E. Payne of Newton.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Blyde W. Harper in 1945, who died while serving in World War II; and her second husband, William Frank Randolph in 1993.
