Helen B. (VanBrogen) Blommers, 80, of Newton died Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at the Hospice of Jasper County’s Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating.
The family will greet friends after the burial with a coffee time at the funeral home. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park in Newton.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Ralph and Gertrude (Miedema) VanBrogen, she was born May 3, 1928, in Pella.
Helen was united in marriage with Marvin Blommers on Aug. 13, 1947, in Lynn Creek, Mo. A graduate of Pella High School, she had lived in Newton since 1952.
Helen worked 21 years for the Newton Community School District. She had worked in the hot lunch program and then she worked as a custodian, retiring in 1988.
Survivors include her son, Duane (Lisa) Blommers of Newton; two daughters, Sharon (Mike) Farrell of Cedar Falls and Sandy (Bill) Boyd of Newton; one daughter-in-law, Kathy Blommers of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce (Paul) Thompson of Pella.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin in 1999; twin daughters in infancy; one son, Mark in 2006; and her brother, Donald VanBrogen.
