09-24-1945 Monday - Newton Paper - Colfax: Henry Nicodemus, 82, retired farmer and lifetime resident of Jasper county, died at 2:15 Sunday afternoon at his home at 315 East Howard Street, Colfax, Iowa. He had been in failing health for the past two years, and death was attributed to old age and heart failure.

Isaac Henry Nicodemus, son of the late Jacob and Nancy Nicodemus, was born on the Nicodemus farm north of Colfax on March 16, 1863. He received his first education in the rural schools of Jasper county, after which he attended Drake University in Des Moines for two years, until his eyes failed.

On February 13, 1890, he was united in marriage to Iona Dell Smith at the farm home of her parents, near Ira. Mr. Nicodemus lived all his life in Jasper county as a farmer, except for one year when he lived in Washington state, and did carpenter work. He retired in 1916 and moved to Colfax. He is preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Ivan, who lives on the Nicodemus farm and Thor, who operates the Thor Flower Shop in Colfax; one grandson, Keith; and one sister, Mrs. Ella Gray of Colorado Springs, Co. Also several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Nicodemus was a member of the Colfax Christian church, the IOOF and the Newton Daily News Three Quarter Century club. No funeral arrangements have been made, pending word from Mrs. Gray in Colorado.

Mrs. Nicodemus, who has been confined to her bed for the past several weeks suffering with gland trouble, is reported to be about the same.
