Funeral services for Gregory Jon Van Wyk, 43, of Newton will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship in Newton. Visitation will take place at the Sully Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Sully beginning at noon today, Monday, Sept. 29, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Gregory Jon Van Wyk was born on April 25, 1965 to Marvin Lee and Ruthanne (Ver Woert) Van Wyk in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He received his education in the Sully area, graduating from the Lynnville-Sully High School. He furthered his education by attending trade schools. Greg passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008.
On July 29, 2000 Greg was united in marriage with Leni Liston in Newton, Iowa. They lived in the Newton area for most of their married life. Greg was a trucker and was currently working for Nagel Farms. Previously he was employed at Maytag, Rozenboom Machinery, and Parmeli Plumbing and Heating. He also served his country by joining the Marine Reserves.
Greg enjoyed fishing, hunting, motorcycles, farming, gardening, and his family. He was a hard worker and was dedicated to his job.
He was a member of the Cornerstone Bible Fellowship Church. He was also active in the Abate Motorcycle Club for several years.
Those left to cherish his memory are: his wife, Leni; his mother, Ruthanne Van Wyk of Pella; his son: Chadwick Cooper of Newton; his grandmother: Ruth Ver Woert of Pella; his step-father-in-law: Larry Shannon of Newton; two sisters: Jennifer Van Wyk of Pella and her daughter Taylor Boertje, and Jessica (Matt) Mclaughlin of Grinnell and their children, Zachary, Tyler, Austin, and Noah Keenan; a special little friend, Wyatt Miedema; and numerous uncles, aunts, and friends.
Preceding him in death was his father, Marvin Van Wyk; grandparents: Raymond and Johanna Van Wyk and Andrew Ver Woert; and his uncle Kevin Van Wyk of Colorado.
