Irene B. “Bunny” Mitchell, 79, of Newton died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at her home in Newton.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 22, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Aaron Loree of the First Baptist Church in Newton officiating. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be left to the Irene B. “Bunny” Mitchell Memorial Fund and left at the funeral home.
Born on June 18, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas, she was the daughter of Arthur G. and Rose (Lopez) Burris. She was a nurse’s aide for 26 years having worked at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton and at the SW Texas Medical Center. She returned to Newton in 2004.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton. Bunny enjoyed music, dancing, traveling, sports and she was a San Antonio Spurs Fan.
Survivors include four sons, Norm (Shelley) Hawkins of Ames, Bob (Sari) Hawkins of Newton, Dick (Shellie) Hawkins of Pella and Tim Hawkins of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren, Andrea (Joshua) Blythe of Ames, Emily (Mike) Janssen of Columbia, Mo., Andrew (Christina) Hawkins and Nikki Hawkins, all of Des Moines; one great-grandson, Anthony Blythe of Ames; and two sisters, Lillian Kinsala of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Jackie Sims of Louisiana.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
