Memorial services for Mark Emmack will be Monday, Sept. 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Friends may call at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home after 1 p.m. Sunday. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be designated to the First United Methodist Church or Hospice of Jasper County.
Mark Clayton Emmack, the son of Donovan and Ella Juanita Anthony Emmack, was born Dec. 20, 1928, in Newton. He graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1947.
On Oct. 19, 1952, Mark was united in marriage with Phyllis Schrader at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Mark worked as a banking loan officer for 20 years, primarily for Jasper County Savings Bank in Newton. He retired from the Jasper County Assessor’s office in 1994. In his spare time, Mark enjoyed his time on the golf course. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Midtown Coffee Club, the Elks Lodge and had served on the boards of the Easter Seals and the Jasper County American Cancer Society.
Death came to Mark on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 79 years old.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Beverly.
Those left to honor Mark’s memory include his wife, Phyllis of Newton; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Elaine Emmack of Tempe, Ariz.; his brothers-in-law, Richard Allfree of Story City and Charles Schrader of Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
