La Verne Sterling

MONROE - Funeral services for La Verne E. Sterling, 47, a resident of Monroe since 1950, were held today, Feb. 12, at the Monroe United Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Wesley Harker, interim pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville.

Memorials to the Diabetes Association will be accepted.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe handled arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Barbara; a brother, Gary of Forest City; a sister, Roberta (Mrs. David) Schrader of Monroe; and his mother, Verna Sterling of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Sterling, a member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church, was an employee of Vermeer Co. of Pella.

The son of Paul and Verna Markle Sterling, he was born June 25, 1942 in St. Paul, Minn.

He was married to Barbara Higgs April 1, 1966 in Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, February 1990.
