Hollis I. Spain

Hollis I. Spain, 79, of Suncrest Village, a longtime resident of the Newton and Reasnor areas, died Sunday morning, Sept. 1, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church.

The Rev. H. Eugene Cedarholm, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home after noon today. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Lutheran Church Building Fund may be left at the funeral home or at the church.

Survivors are a son, Timothy of Marshalltown; a daughter, Sharon Fick of Rock Mount, N.C.; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Alta Zickel and Juanita Anderson, both of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Genevieve, in 1987, a brother and a sister.

Mr. Spain, a member of the First Lutheran Church, had been a custodian at the Newton and Ankeny Schools until retiring from the Ankeny schools in 1974.

The son of Frank and Emma Tousley Spain he was born Aug. 31, 1912 in rural Newton.

He was married to Genevieve White April 9, 1938 in Fort Des Moines. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1991.
