Raymond Sojka

Funeral services for Raymond Sojka Jr., 67, of Loredo, Mo., a resident of Newton from 1969 until the early 1980s, were held Thursday, July 11, at the Loredo Baptist Church.

Memorial services were held at the First Christian Church in Washington, Iowa, Saturday, July 13.

He died recently at Trenton, Mo., following a heart attack.

Survivors are his wife, Margaret; a son, Ira, of Traer; six daughters, Barb Welle and Sherry Reynolds, both of Newton, Vivian Sojka of Mesa, Ariz., Rita Rich of Wayland, Debbie Krantz of Washington and Julie Hathaway of Grandview; 17 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and four sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

Mr. Sojka, an Army veteran of World War II, had served in the Philippines. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign wars, the American Legion, Loredo City Council and Loredo Baptist Church.

An electrician he was employed at Meisner Electric and Lockman Electric when he resided in Newton and had farmed in the Washington area until 1969.

The son of Raymond and Frances Sojka, he was born Oct. 19, 1923 in Riverside.

He was married to Doris Swift Jan. 1, 1947 in Ainsworth and to Margaret Brannan Dec. 29, 1984 in Trenton, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1991
