DEATHS

Verne F. Snook

Verne Frank Snook, 82, of 313 S. 4th Ave. W., a lifelong resident of Newton, died Tuesday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Wallace Funeral Home.

Dr. Marvin Potter, pastor of the United Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Palo Alto Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials to the Palo Alto Presbyterian Church or the Jasper County Senior citizens will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Willard of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Beverly) Nearmyer and Mrs. J. D. (Phyllis) Wood of Newton; a step-daughter, Mrs. Donald (Ruth) Jones of Newton; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a step-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Colleen Gesford, in 1959, second wife, Perle Queen, in 1981 and a son, Robert, in 1945.

Mr. Snook was a member of the United Presbyterian church, a charter member of the Palo Alto Grange and a member of the Jasper County Senior Citizens.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter.

The son of Frederick and Jeanetta "Nettie" Dodge Snook, he was born Jan. 15, 1901 in Newton, attended Newton schools and was a 1918 graduate of Newton community High School. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1983
