Dennis D. Smith

Dennis D. Smith, 50, of 329 Country Club Acres, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Wednesday, May 15, at the Veterans Administration Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, May 18, at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. Eldon Pals, Baptist minister, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Veterans Section of Newton Union Cemetery.

Military services at the cemetery will be conducted by Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. today, May 16.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 17, at the funeral home.

Memorials in Mr. Smith's name may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are his wife, Sharon Kay; two sons, Steven of California and Dennis (Dean) of Newton; two daughters, Mrs. John (Roxanne) Baker and Shari Smith, both of Newton; and a granddaughter.

Also surviving are four brothers, Wayne, Lawrence and Chris, all of Newton; and Hugh "Frosty" of Manchester, Tenn.; and three sisters, Helen Cushatt and Mrs. Dale (Judy) Berg, both of Colfax, and Ilis Hodgson of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James "Jim" and Bill.

Mr. Smith, a construction laborer, was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1655.

The son of Charles and Agnes Gibson Smith, he was born Feb. 8, 1935 at the farm home north of Newton.

He was married to Sharon Kay Miller June 30, 1961 at Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1985.
