GERING, Neb. - Funeral services for Helen Damewood Mc Nair Slemmons, 93, of Gering, Neb., a resident of Newton from 1920 until May 1, 1953, will be held at the Federated Church in Mitchell, Neb., Saturday, Dec. 30.

She died Sunday at Northfield Villa Retirement Home in Gering.

Contributions to Northfield Villa at Gering, Neb., or the Federated Church of Mitchell, Neb., will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, James L. Mac Nair of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Marillyn B. Smith of Loveland, Colo.; a step-son, Robert Slemmons of Topeka, Kan.; a step-daughter, Mrs. G. U. Dinneen of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Frank Mc Nair, Sept. 19, 1943, her second husband, Garvin Slemmons, Aug. 15, 1985, four brothers and three sisters.

The daughter of James Henderson and Minerva Calhoun Damewood, she was born April 11, 1896 in Clarinda and was graduated from Clarinda High School.

She was married to Frank Le Roy Mc Nair Aug. 17, 1920 and to Garvin Slemmons May 1, 1953.

The Slemmons made their home in Mitchell, Neb., from 1953 until moving to Northfield Villa in 1982. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1989
