John W. Slatten

Funeral services for John W. Slatten, 26, of Rt. 1, Box 322, Newton, were held today, Nov. 25, at the United Methodist Church in Adel.

Dr. Harold J. Green, pastor of the church, assisted by Douglas Reynolds of Newton, conducted services. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery in Adel.

Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Memorials in his name will be accepted.

He died Friday in Newton.

Survivors are his mother and step-father, Pat and Larry Osborn of rural Newton; two brothers, Alex Roshlynn and Brad Slatten, both of Newton; a step-brother, Bill Osborn of Newton; two sisters, Cindy Burns of Marysville, Ohio, and Denise Earring of South Dakota; and a step-sister, Lisa Osborn of Newton.

Also surviving are his paternal grandmothers, Edith Reynolds and Edith Slatten, both of Adel; his maternal grandfather, Glee Harsh of Perry; and his paternal step-grandparents, Everett and Imogene Osborn.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ronald, in 1978, his paternal grandfathers and his maternal grandmother.

Mr. Slatten, who was employed by Brookwood Plumbing in Newton as an electrician, attended Wittemberg Congregational United Church of Christ, north of Newton, and the Adel United Methodist Church.

The son of Ronald Gordon and Pat Harsh Slatten, he was born June 20, 1965 in South Dakota, attended Adel schools and was a 1984 graduate of Newton Community High School.

Mr. Slatten also had moved from Newton to Ohio where he lived for three years, prior to returning to Newton two months ago. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, date unknown
