GRINNELL - Edward Schnell, 93, of Grinnell, a former Killduff area resident, died Sunday, Jan. 13, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

The Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Family visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis Manor in Grinnell or Grinnell General Hospital.

Survivors are his wife, Vera; two sons, Carroll of near Sully, and Kenneth of rural Newton; a daughter, Ellene Renaud of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Enis Klein of near Newton and LeLora Mc Cullough of Forsythe, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Pearl, in 1933.

Mr. Schnell was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Richland Grange.

He was born March 11, 1897 near Sully, attended rural schools near Killduff and Newton Community high School.

After serving in the Army during World War I, he returned to the Killduff area where he farmed with his father.

After his marriage to Pearl Hagedorn in 1922 he farmed and was an independent trucker.

He was married to Vera Davison Nov. 30, 1941 in Dumont. They farmed near Killduff until 1962 and in 1981 moved to rural Grinnell. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1991
