Mamie Schnathorst

Mamie Browning Schnathorst, 90, Apt. 10, Sunset Village, 1800 S. 4th Ave E., a resident of Newton since 1919 died this morning, Nov. 23, at Skiff Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Newton congregational United Church of Christ.

The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, north of Newton.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday at Reese funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Survivors are a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. D. Duane) Hobbs of Rt. 1, Newton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wilbert W., in 1963, a son, Robert, in 1979, three sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Schnathorst was formerly a member o St. John's Evangelical Church, north of Newton and was a member of the Newton Congregational United Church of Christ at the time of her death.

The daughter of Charles and Hannah Davis Browning, she was born July 8, 1900 in Clark County, Mo.

She taught rural schools in Jasper County for several years, beginning in 1919.

She was married to Wilbert W. Schnathorst Jan. 11, 1922 at St. John's Evangelical Church, north of Newton.

She resided on a farm north of Newton for many years, moving to Newton in 1965. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1990
