ADEL - Very Hoy Schmidt, 92, a resident of the Baxter area since 1933, died Saturday morning, Nov. 21, at her home east of Baxter.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Bethany United Church of Christ, east of Baxter.

The Rev. Marie Paterik, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery north of Newton.

Friends may call at the Boyd-Davis Funeral Home in Baxter after 2 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Bethany United Church of Christ may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are her husband, Henry; three sons, Albert and Arnold, both of Newton, and Arthur of rural Newton; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister and a grandchild.

Mrs. Schmidt had been a nurse in Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines and Skiff Medical Center in Newton prior to her marriage.

She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, north of Newton, Bethany United Church of Christ, east of Baxter, and the Malaka Farm Bureau Club.

The Daughter of Albert and Ida Alspach Hoy, she was born March 1, 1900 in Adel.

She was married to Henry Schmidt April 30, 1930 in Adel. She was raised and educated in Adel and was graduated from Adel High School and the Iowa Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Des Moines.

After their marriage, they lived in Wabeno, Wis., until moving to a farm near Baxter in 1933. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, November 1992
