Mrs. Ed Scheffers Services Monday at Monroe Church

MONROE - Funeral services for Mrs. Ed (Jeanette) Scheffers, 74, a longtime resident of Jasper County, were held Monday at the Monroe United Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Doug Maben, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Scheffers died Friday at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton.

Survivors are a son, Duane Westbrook of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Charlene) Mc Gregor of Reasnor, eight grandchildren, and a brother, Martin De Koning of Mount Morris, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a brother and her two husbands, Merritt Westbrook in 1935 and Ed Scheffers in 1972.

She was a member of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church, the Monroe American Legion Auxiliary and the Forever Young Club.

The daughter of Dick and Maggie Van Welden De Koning, she was born Jan. 15, 1904 at Killduff. She was a 1923 graduate of Newton Community High School.

She was married to Merritt Westbrook June 15, 1926 in Newton and after his death was married to Ed Scheffers Aug. 31, 1940. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 1978
