CANBY, Minn. - Funeral services for Ruth Wood, 96, of Canby, Minn., a former resident of Newton, were held today, Jan. 30, at the First Presbyterian Church in Canby.

The Rev. Dan Billings, pastor of the church, conducted services.

Graveside rites will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Newton Union Cemetery.

She died Thursday at the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby.

Survivors are a brother, Ray miller of Green Mountain; a step-son, Richard Wood of Glencoe, Minn.; a step-daughter, Jeanette Long of Marshalltown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ben, her stepfather, five sisters and two brothers.

Mrs. Wood was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where she was active in the Presbyterian Women, the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 92, Canby Hospital Auxiliary, Porter American Legion Auxiliary and Canby Senior Citizens and was a member of the Lincoln County Extension for more than 30 years.

She was born Jan. 17, 1899 on a farm near Toulon, Ill., and attended rural school. She later moved with her family to Marshalltown.

She was married to Ben Wood in 1945 and the couple farmed near Porter, Minn.

She had resided in Valley View Apartments from 1977 until moving to the Senior Haven Nursing Home in Canby five years ago. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
