MILAN, Mo. - Jewell M. Chapman Tipton, 70, of Milan, Mo., a former resident of Newton, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, at Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center in Kirksville, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Milan.

The Rev. Charles Jackson will conduct services.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Milan.

Friends may call at Schoene-Wright Funeral Home in Milan after noon Friday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Baptist Church in Milan will be accepted.

Survivors are her husband, Albert Earl; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Kathy of Milan, Mo.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha Mae Deaton of Mingo, Debbie and Donnie Rubino of Milan, Mo., and Joyce and Lindy Hoerrmann of Green Castle, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her mother, Dollie Chapman of Milan, Mo.; three brothers, Franklin Chapman of Brooklyn and Herman Chapman and Ike Chapman, both of Milan, Mo.; and a sister, Reta Broyles of Milan, Mo.

Mrs. Tipton was preceded in death by her father, a daughter, Judith Leah Tipton, and two brothers, Albert and Charles Chapman.

Mrs. Tipton, who resided in Milan, Mo., until moving to Newton in 1942, was a former employee of the Skiff Medical Center, Bigelow's Restaurant and the Winpower Manufacturing Co.

She returned to Milan in 1970 where she was employed at the Leewood Manor Nursing Home. She was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church.

The daughter of Ora "Cracker" and Dollie Leslie Chapman, she was born May 15, 1924 in Trenton, Mo.

She was married to Albert Earl Tipton Oct. 15, 1939 in Milan, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
