SULLY - Funeral services for Florence Schnug Butin, 92, of 404 4th St., Sully, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton.

The Rev. Jerry Brown, senior pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Heart Association will be accepted.

She died Wednesday evening at the Pella Community Hospital of heart failure.

Survivors are a son, Robert Duane Oswalt of Sully; a step-son, Claire Butin of Monroe; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen (Mrs. Delmar) Elscott of Newton; and a brother, Harold Schnug of Galesburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Lowell Oswalt, Jan. 22, 1929, second husband, Jesse Guy Butin, July 23, 1989, a son, Stanley Oswalt, Feb. 20, 1989, a step-son, Carroll Butin, in 1976, a grandson, three brothers, Clifford, Eldred and Merlin Schnug, and two sisters, Ruby and Pearl.

Mrs. Butin, who had been an employee in the bakery department of Stockton Grocery Store, was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the farm.

She was a former member of the Galesburg Christian in Killduff.

The daughter of Henry and Margaret Kling Schnug, she was born Jan. 15, 1901 in Jasper County and attended rural schools.

She was married to Lowell Oswalt in 1925 and to Jesse Guy Butin June 2, 1954.

Mrs. Butin had resided in the Galesburg, Newton and Sully communities. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1993
