Dora P. Turner Burton, 93, a resident of Heritage Manor Care Center for the past eight and one half years, died Wednesday, May 12, at the center of complications of a stroke.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 a.m. Friday and visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials to the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Newton or the First Presbyterian Church will be accepted.

Survivors are a son, Clarence "Irvin" of Newton; three daughters, Velma (Mrs. Roy) Spence of Chandler, Ariz., Mabel (Mrs. Alexander) Kadet of Newton and Edith (Mrs. Vinson) Findley of Hot Springs, Ark.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert L. Burton, five brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Burton, whose hobbies were sewing, quilting and anyone's grandchildren, was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and supported several area service organizations and charities.

She was an employee of the Vernon Co., for 20 years.

The daughter of Travis and Sara Jane Pratt Turner, she was born Jan. 23, 1900 in Wayne County, Kentucky.

She had resided in the Kellogg community most of her life prior to moving to Newton in 1943.

She was married to Albert L. Burton July 27, 1916 in Toledo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, May 1993
