BUSSEY - Ralph R. Buckley, 74, of Bussey, a former longtime resident of Jasper County, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Monroe United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Karen Merrill, pastor of the church, will conduct services.

Military graveside rites will be held at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Gilbert Funeral Home in Bussey.

Mr. Buckley is survived by his wife, Kiristine; four daughters, Linda Modlin of Newton, Doris Anderson of Des Moines, Susan Sacco of Centerville and Karon Carnahan of Cedar Creek, Texas; a son, Ronald of Bussey; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are seven sisters, Dorothy Breckenridge of Monroe, Jessie Couch and Violet Revell, both of Newton, Josephine Bell of Colfax, Joy Christen of Independence, Mo., Molly Warrick of Valeria and Carrie Paulson of Altoona, and three brothers, Arnold of Des Moines, Lee of Colfax and Zane of Mystic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Ruth, a grandson and a granddaughter.

Mr. Buckley had been employed at the Maytag Co., in Newton, had farmed in the Monroe and Knoxville areas and had been an employee of the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Knoxville at the time of his retirement.

The son of Raymond and Mae Wickliff Buckley, he was born Aug. 31, 1919 at Mitchellville.

He was married to Kiristine Jensen Dec. 19, 1943 in Otley.

A veteran of World War II, he had resided in Bussey for a year. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, August 1993
