Funeral services for Mary Ellen Schofield Bogart, 81, of 1113 1st St. N., a resident of Newton for 11 years, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The Rev. Ernie Braida, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Nolan Settlement Cemetery in rural Solon.

Wallace-Pence Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for masses or the building fund will be accepted.

She died Monday morning at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines following a heart attack.

Survivors are her husband, J. Winston; two sons, James "Jim" of Newton and Joseph of Indianola; two grandson; four step-grandsons, four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Regina Burger of Clam Gulch, Alaska.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Ann Patricia, in infancy.

Mrs. Bogart, a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and RSVP, had taught second, third and fourth grades in schools in Garwin, Central City, Elkhorn and Morley.

The daughter of Joseph and Helen Mc Craith Schofield, she was born Dec. 1, 1911 in Peoria, Ill., was graduated from Peoria High School, and junior college and college at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids.

She was married to J. Winston Bogart Oct. 15, 1932 in Rock Island, Ill.

Mrs. Bogart also had resided in Elkhorn, Central City, Garwin, Morley and Iowa City prior to moving to Newton. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1993
