Leona M. Sumpter Graham, 88, of Nelson Manor in Newton, a former longtime resident of Colfax, died Sunday, Jan. 1, at the Skiff Medical Center of a heart condition.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Dan Roeda, pastor of the Newton Christian Reformed Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Friends may call after noon Wednesday. Visitation with the family will be held from 12:30 to time of services.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Willard and Mae Norvell of Newton; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Hazel Hollingsworth of Webster City and Irene Yochum of Peoria, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant sons, a daughter, Colleen Norvell Keith, and three brothers, John Sumpter, Ben Sumpter and Billy Sumpter.

Mrs. Graham was a homemaker.

The Daughter of Charles and Ada Berry Sumpter, she was born May 10, 1906 in Clyde.

She was married to Jack Graham in 1942 in Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, January 1995
