COLFAX - Funeral services for Ethel Marie Bergstrom Brunk, 94, a resident of Colfax since 1945, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 16, at Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. Michael Orthel, pastor of the Colfax United Methodist Church, will conduct services.

Graveside rites will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Whipple Cemetery at Griswold with the Rev. Jeff Dadisman officiating.

Friends may call at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax after noon today and visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brunk died Tuesday at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Survivors are a son, Ferd Jr. of Des Moines; three daughters, Freda (Mrs. Harold) Thompson of Colfax, Bethene (Mrs. Carl) Kressman of Harrison, Ark., and Leona (Mrs. William "Lloyd") Preston of Melbourne; 12 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother, Delmar Bergstrom of Zearing and two sisters, Ellen Brunk of Griswold and Ebba Bates of Oakland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ferd Brunk Sr., two brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Brunk, a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls, taught in rural Iowa schools prior to her marriage to Ferd Brunk Sr. Dec. 22, 1921 in Council Bluffs.

They resided in Des Moines prior to moving to Colfax in 1945.

The daughter of Edwin and Anna Bergstrom, she was born Sept. 27, 1898 in Carmen, Ill., and was a graduate of Griswold high School. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, July 1993
