LeRoy Christy, 66, of 314 E. 11th St. S. died of cancer this morning, Sept. 30, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 30, 1992

Funeral services for LeRoy Christy, 66, of 314 E. 11th St. S., a resident of Newton since 1957, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. James Black, pastor of the Foursquare Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.

He died Wednesday morning at this home of cancer.

Survivors are his wife, Lucille; a son, Melvin Lewis of Milan, Mo.; a daughter, Beverly Ann (Mrs. Leon) Wharff Jr. of Newton; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Also surviving are three brothers, Edward and Bill, both of Ava, Mo., and Albert of Syracuse, Kan.; and two sisters, Viola Denny of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Dovie Grant of San Diego, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

Mr. Christy, a Marine veteran of World War II, was a member of the Newton American Legion Post 111.

He was employed by Peters Construction Co. for 25 years prior to starting his own construction contractor business in 1983.

The son of Lewis and Violet Harwick Christy, he was born May 13, 1926 in Ava, Mo., and was graduated from Humphreys, Mo., High School.

He was married to Lucille Williams Sept. 4, 1947 in Trenton, Mo. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, September 31, 1992.
