Rubie N. Carson

Funeral services for Rubie N. Hays Carson, 76, of 1426 1st Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1946, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

Elder Raymond Webb, pastor of the Primitive Baptist Church in Carthage, Ill., will conduct services. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in rural Grinnell.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials in her name will be accepted.

She died Wednesday morning at the Skiff Medical Center following a heart attack.

Survivors are a son, Ron D. of Newton; two daughters, Rita (Mrs. William) Styer of Moscow, Idaho, and Ruth (Mrs. Clifford) Mattix of Des Moines; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Florence Creed of Centralia, Ill., and Mildred Dye and Mary Jane Prosise, both of Salem, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond, in 1971, two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Carson, a homemaker, was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church.

The daughter of Jasper A. and M. Isabelle Sands Hays, she was born Nov. 9, 1915 in Salem, Ill., attended country school in Salem, Ill., and received her GED in Newton in 1968.

She was married to Raymond F. Carson March 17, 1945 in Colfax. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, October 1992
