Emerson Scoville

Emerson Scoville, 91, of Rt. 4, Newton, a lifelong resident of Buena Vista Township in Jasper County, died Wednesday afternoon, June 8, at Skiff Medical Center of kidney failure.

Funeral services will be held t 1:30 p.m. Friday at Reese Chapel.

The Rev. William Long, pastor of the Pleasant View Methodist Church, will conduct services and burial will be in Slagle Cemetery in rural Newton.

Masonic rites will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held following the Masonic rites.

Memorials to the Pleasant View United Methodist Church or the Kellogg Historical Society will be accepted.

Surviving is a sister, Viola Scoville of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Lester and Robert.

Mr. Scoville, a farmer, was a member of the Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Newton Lodge 56 AF and AM and Jasper County Farm Bureau and was secretary of Central Counties Co-op in Kellogg for 50 years.

The son of Charles B. and Lucy Mark Scoville, he was born Sept. 21, 1902 in Buena Vista Township and attended Buena Vista township Schools. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, June 1994
