DES MOINES — Murray Van Gilder, 93, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007, at his home.

Funeral services were today at the Iles Funeral Home in Des Moines. Burial followed at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Murray was born on Jan. 25, 1914, in Prairie City and later served in the United States Navy. He married Fern DeHoet and to this union three sons were born, Robert, Charles and Greg.

He is survived by his sons, Robert (Cathy) Van Gilder of West Des Moines, Charles (Andrea) Van Gilder of Batavia, Ill., and Greg (Martha) Van Gilder, also of West Des Moines; two sisters, Elna Saunders of Marshalltown and Adra (Forest) Clymer of Newton; nine grandchildren, Mary Beth Forrest, Laurie Brouwer, Rob Van Gilder, Steve Van Gilder, Michael Van Gilder, Deb Van Gilder, Kristen Van Gilder, John Van Gilder and Scott Van Gilder; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Karen Ackley.

Murray was preceded in death by his wife, Fern Van Gilder and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.
